VARIETY – The town of 60,000 people will provide the setting for what is expected to become “Bond 25’s” prologue action sequence, similar to “Spectre’s” opening segment in Mexico City during Day of the Dead celebrations, insiders say. Preparations to accommodate an estimated 500 production people for the shoot, which is expected to take place in late July, are already underway. Matera’s prehistoric whitewashed caves also provided the backdrops for the Jerusalem set of Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ.”

Italy has been featured frequently in the Bond franchise, most recently in “Spectre,” which boasted a high-speed chase along the river Tiber in Rome, among other scenes. The opening scene of “Quantum of Solace” started with a car chase along Lake Garda and then segued to Siena during the Palio horse race.

Line producer Enzo Sisti, who is handling the Italian leg of the “Bond 25” shoot, confirmed that a “big production is coming to Matera” but declined to confirm that it is the next, as-yet-untitled Bond outing. Eon Productions, which is producing “Bond 25” with MGM, did not respond to a request for comment.

BROADWAY WORLD – New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) has announced that they will present a special one-night-only reading of A Number, by NYTW Usual Suspect and five-time Obie Award winner Caryl Churchill (Love and Information; A Number), directed by NYTW Usual Suspect and Tony Award winner Sam Gold (Fun Home, Othello) and featuring Daniel Craig (Othello, Spectre). The reading will benefit NYTW’s Artist Workshop and Education programming and will take place at New York Theatre Workshop (79 East 4th Street) Sunday, March 10, 2019 at 7pm.

It was announced today that Bond 25 has been pushed back to a new release date. Instead of February 14, Daniel’s final Bond film will open on April 8, 2020.

DEADLINE –  MGM’s Bond 25 will open April 8, 2020 now, instead of Feb. 14, 2020. That new date is the Wednesday before Easter, and currently 007 is the only major pic on that new date.

Bond 25 leaves behind what was a very crowded Valentine’s Day weekend next year with an untitled Disney live action movie, Fox’s Nimona, and Universal’s Will Packer untitled romance production.

As previously reported, Beasts of Nation helmer Cary Joji Fukunaga stepped in to direct Daniel Craig after Danny Boyle decided not to steer the project.

007 scribe regulars Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are back writing the Eon production.

Cast returning include Ralph Fiennes, Lea Seydoux, Naomie Harris, and Ben Whishaw.

Universal will be handling overseas on Bond 25 while MGM handles distribution.
