Back in October it was reported that Skyfall screenwriter John Logan had signed a deal to pen the scripts for a two-movie 007 arc for Bond 24 and Bond 25, which would then be shot back-to-back. However, with the billion dollar success of Daniel Craig’s latest outing, it seems that producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have changed their minds and are now looking at a standalone story for the super spy’s 24th screen adventure, with Skyfall director Sam Mendes said to be close to agreeing a return.

According to Baz Bamigboye of The Daily Mail, Academy Award-winner Mendes “hasn’t firmly made up his mind about directing another Bond, but I’m reliably told he’s ’75 per cent’ of the way towards doing it.” Apparently Mendes was reluctant to commit to the plans to shoot two movies back-to-back, but with those plans jettisoned, he’s now on board “in theory”, but wants to see a finished script from Logan first. The report goes on to state that Bond 24 could go into pre-production later this year, which would surely be a necessity if Eon are to have any chance of meeting a planned release in 2014.

Having pulled in $1.1 billion at the global box-office to date, Skyfall is currently the 007th highest-grossing movie of all-time, and sees Daniel Craig starring alongside the likes of Judi Dench, Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Albert Finney, Ben Wishaw and Bérénice Marlohe.

Rooney Mara has insisted there is no chance of Daniel Craig being sliced from the sequel to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

Mara starred as computer hacker Lisbeth Salander in the Hollywood adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s best-selling novel, while Craig played investigative journalist Mikael Blomqvist. Directed by David Fincher, the film opened in December 2011 and took $233 million (£147 million) at the box office worldwide – a total Sony Pictures later called a “modest loss”.

A sequel based on Larsson’s second novel The Girl Who Played With Fire was supposed to come out this year (2013), but the project was delayed while its script was being finished. Last week (February 1), it was reported that Craig could now be written out in a bid to cut costs.

However, Mara has insisted this is not an option. She told MTV: “I’ve been talking a lot with [David Fincher] about the sequel, and I don’t know where that rumour was started. He wouldn’t be written out.”

Fincher has yet to sign a deal to direct The Girl Who Played With Fire, but Mara confirmed that he remains in the frame. “I would hope that he would [direct the sequel],” she said. “But no matter what, he’ll definitely have some sort of involvement.”

Daniel Craig could be written out of the sequel to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, according to a new report.

Directed by David Fincher, the Hollywood adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s best-selling novel – the first in his ‘Millennium trilogy’ – came out in December 2011. It starred Craig as investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist, while Rooney Mara played computer-hacking heroine Lisbeth Salander.

The sequel, an adaptation of Larsson’s second novel The Girl Who Played With Fire, was originally due this year (2013). However, the project was delayed while its script was being finished and Fincher has yet to sign up as director.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo took $233 million (£147 million) at the box office worldwide, which makers Sony later described as a “modest loss”. According to sources talking to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio is “hellbent” on reducing the cost of the sequel, which could involve cutting Craig, who reportedly wants a pay rise following the billion-dollar success of Skyfall.

However, the sequel now has a finished script by Steven Zaillian, who also adapted Dragon Tattoo, and Sony is said to be against a rewrite. Meanwhile, a source close to Craig has apparently told The Hollywood Reporter that the actor is keen to return, though negotiations have yet to begin.

DANIEL Craig braves the snowy sub-zero New York air on a trip to the gym with wife Rachel Weisz.

The actor looked a far cry from his tough alter-ego James Bond, wrapping up in several layers but still looking painfully cold.
He grimaced as he walked through heavy snow wearing a jumper, thick coat, two hoods and a scarf.
Rachel appeared more comfortable in the bone-rattling chill, smiling as she peeked out from her huge furry hat and scarf.
Unlike her hubby – whose hands looked as red as his zipped jumper – the actress wisely donned gloves.

Clearly staying in shape is of vital importance to the couple, judging by the blizzards they’re prepared to brave to get to the gym.
It’s been reported that Daniel’s fitness regime was sparked by the weight he piled on over Christmas.
A source told a paper: “He spent months beefing up for Bond. He needs to get back in the gym and start a nutritional plan to regain his Bond-esque muscles.
“Having a flabby stomach is not really his style.”
